                            Greener Primary Care

Cwm Garw Practice is delighted to be signed up to the Greener Primary Care Framework and Award Scheme and we are actively taking steps to reduce our carbon footprint. The climate emergency is also a health emergency.  We therefore aim to enhance the health of our practice population and offer sustainable choices in how we operate and the services we offer to our patients.  This will provide benefits to the NHS, your health and the carbon footprint of healthcare.

We will update this page with the changes we are making across the three sites.

Impacts of climate change

Why a Greener Primary Care Framework for Wales?
In April 2019 the Welsh Government declared a climate emergency and committed to achieving a carbon neutral public sector by 2030. Last year it stated its ambition for net zero emissions for all sectors by 2050 and the most recent Programme for Government demonstrates unequivocal support for building a greener Wales by placing climate change at the heart of decision-making. To coincide with these landmark targets, in March 2021 the Welsh Government published the NHS Wales Decarbonisation Strategic Delivery Plan which provides commitments and a roadmap to decarbonise the NHS by 2030.

To help achieve these targets, Greener Primary Care Wales was established and has partnered up with SOS-UK to run their award-winning ‘Green Impact’ programme, designed to support environmentally and socially sustainable practice within organisations.
